We welcome the new Limited Edition Microfarm, cultivated at Fazenda California, located in the Norte Pioneiro region of Paraná, southern Brazil. The farm sits at an altitude of 750 meters above sea level and is owned by the Saldanha family. We’ve been working with the farm’s owners, Luiz and Flavia, since 2016. In fact, in 2017, we launched the 9th Microfarm Project, Brazil Santa Feliciana, sourced from the same producers.
Luiz began his journey in coffee at the age of 25, and for the past 20 years, he and his wife Flavia have been cultivating the farm behind our latest limited edition Microfarm. Both are certified Q-Graders, sharing a deep passion and commitment to quality coffee and its continuous evolution. Their two daughters, Heloisa and Maria, are expected to carry the legacy forward, continuing the family tradition that originally started with Luiz’s uncle, Paulo Cesar Saldanha Rodrigues. Paulo’s dream of producing high-quality specialty coffee was left unfulfilled, as he tragically passed away in a plane crash.
As for the Arara variety, Luiz has been cultivating it for about three years. It offers the sweetness typically found in Catuai, while being significantly more resilient to common coffee plant diseases.
Finally, Fazenda California is part of the Environmental Project by Capricornio Coffees and has been recognized as one of the Top 5 most sustainable farms in Brazil.
