Coffee is a favourite daily habit of people all over the world and for this reason every year we celebrate it through “World of Coffee”. Our farm people and people from all over the world, meet and exchange ideas and knowledge, renewing and creating new trends of your favourite habit, the pleasure of coffee. This year, the biggest celebration of coffee will take place in Athens, from 22 to 24 June and Coffee Island could not fail to contribute in its own way so that we all discover together a world full of special aromas and unique flavour profiles.

The largest worldwide coffee exhibition is an occasion to enjoy a very special competition lot coffee. Sidra is the coffee that Anthony Douglas, the 2022 World Champion, won the World Barista Championship and we offer it at selected Coffee Island locations throughout Athens. The rare beans will be available at the Coffee Shop and Espresso Bar to offer you a unique taste experience coming from a small Ethiopian farm.

There, two young brothers, Nestor and Andrian, who grew up in the coffee farming sector, managed to take the next step by seeking out production methods which can offer a unique specialty coffee. After all, the Huila region, where Sidra is produced, is known for the quality of the coffee its soils yield. This is where coffees that participate in international competitions originate from and stand out because they combine acidity with sweetness and a strong fruity profile. The volcanic subsoil, the rich vegetation and the ideal altitude combine to produce a variety that excels.

The two young producers, in order to achieve the taste profile that makes the difference, harvest the cherries when they are well ripe and then sort them. The fermentation of the fruit starts on its own after they are left for 12 hours at 25o C, followed by a series of steps that contribute to the formation of the special profile of this coffee: anaerobic fermentation in bags, oxidation in tanks, fermentation again in bags, immersion in water, drying under canopies and then in lightless cellars. This whole process offers us a coffee with a unique flavour profile.
