We may not\u00a0even know about some World Days, but our awareness is growing. October has many\u00a0important days, such as World Animal Day on the 4th and World Mental Health Day on the\u00a010th. October has a color and it\u2019s pink, because October is dedicated to the prevention and\u00a0awareness of breast cancer. October, however, is also the month that can make us smile, in\u00a0fact, the first Friday in October is dedicated to the smile. Then there\u2019s also Halloween\u2026 the\u00a0scariest day of the year! For us at Coffee Island though, a true horror would be an October\u00a0without our absolute favorite World Day: International Coffee Day!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6638\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coffeeisland.gr\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/athnes_coffee_festival.jpg\" alt=\"Coffee Island at Athens Coffee Festival in 2019. \" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>The party before\u2026<\/h2>\n<p>Before International Coffee Day arrives, the annual Greek celebration of coffee, the Athens\u00a0Coffee Festival usually takes place. This year, the Athens Coffee Festival was canceled due to unprecedented world events. We do anticipate, however, that next year\u2019s festival will\u00a0provide coffee lovers with opportunities to get together. We are looking forward to the\u00a0chance to relive moments full of coffee, exchange coffee tips, have fun and, as usual, take\u00a0some souvenir Polaroid photos. International Coffee Day has come to mean coffee in all its many meanings, from\u00a0waking up our day to adding spark to our daily moments. Coffee will always be close at hand\u00a0whether you find yourself on the bus, metro or in your car. We\u00a0welcomed International Coffee Day, with a big smile and with respect for everyone from the\u00a0local producer to your Coffee Island barista, who are dedicated to creating the perfect cup\u00a0of coffee. Special Offers were also an important part of this annual celebration, as a \u201cthank\u00a0you\u201d for entrusting us with your coffee. If you were among those who purchased products\u00a0from our coffee grindery, you enjoyed the opportunity to savor Ethiopia Adola coffee, a\u00a0precious variety belonging to our \u201cEthiopia Motherland\u201d Microfarm collection at a 20%\u00a0discount. Ethiopia Motherland\u2019s launch began with the Ethiopia Damo variety, which was\u00a0the beginning of the tour to Ethiopia\u2019s flavors throughout the year, when 4 different artisan\u00a0roasted coffees from Ethiopia, made special appearances in all our shops.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6644\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coffeeisland.gr\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ethiopian_man_serving_coffee.jpg\" alt=\"Ethiopian man serving coffee.\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>The four stops on the tour of taste<\/h2>\n<p>Travelling has now become quite limited by restrictions. Nevertheless, last year provided us\u00a0with a flavorful tour. After all, the artisan roasted coffees from our Microfarm project can\u00a0transport you to Ethiopia, with just one sip. Of course, these are no ordinary coffees; we are\u00a0referring to the Damo, Kutigenge, Limu and Adola varieties, which are all 100% Arabica. The names are the actual places where our Coffee Island team made stops on their Ethiopian\u00a0tour. This tour has forever expanded our taste horizons, as well as our wealth of coffee\u00a0knowledge. Every single one of these four coffees has its own particular story which we are\u00a0compelled to share with you and all of our coffee fans.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6646\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coffeeisland.gr\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ethiopia_damo.jpg\" alt=\"Coffee Island's Ethiopia Damo.\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>First stop: Damo<\/h2>\n<p>This tour of taste started on last year\u2019s International Coffee Day, when you had the chance\u00a0to taste Ethiopia Damo for the first time. Cultivated in the village of the same name, in the\u00a0area of Bensa of Sidama, this coffee is 100% Specialty Arabica and has been produced from\u00a0people who consider coffee farming as a way of life.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6648\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coffeeisland.gr\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ethiopia_kutigenge.jpg\" alt=\"Coffee Island's Ethiopia Kutigenge.\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1536\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.coffeeisland.gr\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ethiopia_kutigenge.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.coffeeisland.gr\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ethiopia_kutigenge-683x1024.jpg 683w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Second stop: Kutigenge<\/h2>\n<p>The second part of this tour of taste brought you the flavor of Ethiopia Kutigenge, which is a\u00a0100% Specialty Arabica Heirloom, with notes of blueberry, apricot and cacao bean. Its name\u00a0is a tribute to the people who labor daily to farm this variety, in the area Yirgacheffe, Banko\u00a0Okoto &amp; Dobota.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6650\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coffeeisland.gr\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ethiopia_limu.jpg\" alt=\"Coffee Island's Ethiopia Limu.\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Next stop: Limu<\/h2>\n<p>The 20th coffee of the Microfarm project and the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> in the Ethiopia Motherland collection,\u00a0brought the full taste of the birthplace of coffee to your cup. The coffee beans were\u00a0carefully picked one by one, a special brew was created, and it demonstrates why Ethiopia\u00a0continually gains strength in the global coffee market. When the ideal coffee farming\u00a0conditions meet people who love coffee and respect the environment, the result is world-famous.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6652\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coffeeisland.gr\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ethiopia_adola.jpg\" alt=\"Coffee Island's Ethiopia Adola.\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Final stop: Adola<\/h2>\n<p>The most recent coffee in the Ethiopia Motherland collection will still be available for you to\u00a0enjoy for a limited time. It\u2019s certainly the most unique of the four coffees, with notes of sour\u00a0cherry liqueur, melon jam and chocolate syrup.
